We Can Help Your Organization Achieve Your Sustainability Goals, One Driver at a Time

Reduce tailpipe emissions and cut fuel consumption by focusing your drivers on operating your equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

In November 2007 the International Transport Forum held a Workshop where sponsors from around the world presented the results of a variety of eco-driving training programs.

Topics reviewed included some of the successful practices in integrating eco-driving into national policies. This two day meeting explored, in addition to national strategies, policies to promote eco-driving in different modes, communication campaigns and partnership programs as well as issues of measuring, monitoring and evaluating of eco-driving initiatives.

The overall finding indicated that immediately after eco-driving training, average fuel economy improvements of between 5-15 percent on group level were recorded for cars, buses and trucks. The best results for individual drivers showed 20-50 percent improvements in fuel economy under test conditions.

Separate studies by Ford Motor Company, Isuzu, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Japan, (as well as many others) indicate the average driver can attain closer to a 25% improvement in fuel mileage; and with continued training, feedback, and incentives - most drivers can can maintain these improvements over time.

While eco-driving has been slower to take root with the American public than it has in Europe, American fleet operators are already seeing the benefits to fleet safety as well as their bottom line. One recent example of successful use of fleet eco-driving programs here in the US happened in 2009 when Polk County, FL saved over $500,000 in fuel costs and considerably reduced county fleet emissions using a voluntary program for fleet drivers to adopt proven eco-driving program techniques in their every day work.

In December 2010 BrightFleet.com was spun-off of FuelClinic.com to handle all fleet-related work. FuelClinic is a project with a long history and deep understanding of eco-driving and is considered a subject-matter-expert in eco-driving driver improvement programs. BrightFleet can bring that understanding to your fleet.

Fleet Sustainability Training Program Program Modules

The following "package" of training modules is designed to give your drivers a comprehensive understanding of basic eco-driving techniques so that your fleet can begin operating more efficiently immediately.

The Fuel-Efficient Eco-Attitude

This module teaches drivers that fuel efficient driving behaviors reduce emissions and have personal benefits. Drivers will learn how moods and habits affect their driving style and how to adjust driving habits to improve fuel efficiency.

Eco Driving Trip Preparation

This module teaches drivers how to think about their trip before leaving and to plan to make it more fuel efficient. Once completed, drivers will understand the importance of proper vehicle maintenance, solutions to reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions and how improper trip planning can lead to increased fuel consumption.

Managing Emissions on the Road

This module teaches drivers how to reduce emissions by following safe driving techniques. Participants can expect to learn about factors that increase fuel use on the road, how to take advantage of eco-driving opportunities and tips to improve fuel consumption.

Instructional Designers

This training content was created with the help of a specific group of professionals called Instructional Designers. These professionals specialize in adult learning theory and how to maximize the efficiency of training content.

What they told us is that not all adults learn the same. The three leading adult learning styles include: those who learn best through reading comprehension, those who relate to information strongly through statistical figures, numbers and graphs, and lastly individuals who learn best through a combination of audio and video.

This training has adopted these learning styles and incorporated them into all of these training programs. The end result is comprehensive training programs that are very engaging and memorable.

High Retention Training Schedule

Clients commonly run their training programs annually. This includes the Hazard Perception Evaluation used once a year, in combination with baseline training modules assigned with different due dates weeks apart to reduce overload and maximize retention.

It has been proven that delivering training in smaller portions, rather than all at once leads to better overall retention and stronger permanent learning effects. We recommend training on a monthly basis to keep safety at the forefront throughout the year.

The program is flexible enough to customize training to fit an organizations needs, whether that be monthly, bi-monthly, or weekly, we can meet your particular training needs.
